Escape Planning Saves Lives!
The majority of fatal home fires strike at night, while people are sleeping. Smoke alarms awaken people before smoke overcomes them. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom and on every level of your home.
In case of fire, everyone living in your home should know how to escape and where to meet once out of the home. Plan two exits from every room. Decide on a meeting place and then practice your plan.
Practice regularly so household members become familiar with each evacuation route. Make the drills as realistic as possible so that children understand each way out. If you have a home with a second story or third level, install fire escape ladders for easy window evacuations.
Most fires are preventable - but when fire strikes, you do not have time to plan. |
